How To Perform Lateral Raise Correctly

I am seeing this mistake being made over and over by everyone in every Bangkok gym. The medial deltoid is not contracted by raising your hand. Your hand going up in the air has nothing to do with the deltoid....period. If you want to raise your hands, then simply push the weight upward above your head. This is called the Military Press or Shoulder Press. The correct way to perform the Lateral Raise is to: 1. loosely hook your fingers around the bar Do not tightly grip the bar. This will contract your forearm muscles causing a cheat. 2. relax your wrists Do not tightly grip the bar. This will contract your forearm muscles causing a cheat. 3. raise your elbows Do not raise your forearms. 4. make certain that your elbow is high than your wrist throughout the entire movement Avoid all upper body movement causing a swing. This is the correct way to perform the lateral raise! Do it right! Dennis
